83 back to the drawing board
Well, it’s been over a year since I’ve sincerely done any work, creative work that is. Finally, today I put pen to pad; or in my case finger to keyboard and banged out 1773 words in a couple of hours. I might have done more but I got caught once or twice editing as I was writing. That’s a no-no. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.
79 When in Oz…
77 grinding bone
Saw Grindhouse tonight. Wow. I said I wasn’t going to do lame movie reviews on my blog, but sometimes you gotta say something. And well…

… yeah.
Planet Terror was a helluva lotta fun. It wasn’t a true “Grindhouse” movie, nor was it a parody disguised as an homage. It was more like an impression of a memory of hearing about some grindhouse experience second hand. Like your uncle telling you about when he saw 2000 Maniacs or something. He’s gonna tell you about the part where they cut off the girl’s finger and laughed as the stump Continue reading grinding bone…
73 Oooooo….
The power of Eight.

Whoa.
70 back to work!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted and a lot has happened. Unfortunately, nothing really good. From October through December I couldn’t sit for more than a few minutes in front of my computer. I would get so agitated and even angry that I couldn’t get any work done. But now I’m back at it (admittedly, slowly) and things are going okay. More on all this later. I just wanted to post something because I’ve been avoiding this too.
69 los tamales online
The movie is online @ http://www.mercuryfilm.com (I wish I could make that a hyperlink). It’s the short version, clocking in at 5m:45s or so. Check it out.
67 ladies and gentlemen… paquito
the face launched…

The first version of Los Tamales is cut and it’s a whopping 5:45 long. Honestly, it’s 45 seconds too long, but it’s been cut to the bone as it is. It’s supposed to be about nine minutes, maybe eight, but we had to cut it down for a competition and if I say so myself, “It’s good.” Now it’s in the hands of the composer and a final version should be done by Wednesday night. I’m still going to tell the whole story of the pain and agony caused by sony’s proprietary BS, but I don’t want to jinx what we have going right now. After it’s gone and in the hands of the competion (and winning the prize), then I’ll tell the whole sorted tale. Until then, enjoy this shot of young Rico, in the lead part of Paquito, from Los Tamales. This kids a character!
65 precuts
Okay, check this out: The footage arrives; seven discs worth. That’s a lot of footage. But, it’s not in the usual format. Instead of getting a clip for each take, there’s one long clip that’s a whole disc long. I’m talkin’ about 40 - 45 minutes of continuous footage! Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t shot that way. This is due to the horrible sony camera platform. We didn’t know. No one suspected for a moment that the system sony calls “premier”, “professional”, blah blah blah, would have been this much trouble. Lesson learned. Never use sony products if you have real work to do. If you’re just funnin’. it’s okay. So, long story short - Too Late! - I have to find and cut the clips, before I can edit them into the timeline. Now I’m not complaining. With the exception of the time left to cut and the precutting itself, everything is going great. The footage looks good, which is making the precut a whole lot easier and enjoyable. Next time we go with something other than sony, cut out the problems, and really have some fun making a movie. Back tomorrow with an update on the actual cutting. Precut’s almost done!
64 makin’ tamales
The footage is here and finally I am cutting Los Tamales! There were a few more little speedbumps, but I actually got a couple of things in the timeline and a bunch of subclips for scene one. Tomorrow the real cutting begins!
58 the boys are comin’
Ken’s load has gotten just a tad lighter and he sent me another character sketch. It’s a quick sketch, but again he nailed the character on the first go. I can’t wait until we both have time to really dive into the Henchmen strip. Right now I’m feeling really good about it and I want to get started before I get too frazzled working on other peoples’ projects. (Not that I’m not enjoying what I’ve been doing… I do. It’s what I’ve been wanting to do and I’ve learned a helluva lot in a pretty short time.) That said (or thought), I do want to get back into full swing with my own projects. I have a lot of catching up to do. In the meantime; here’s a taste.
Quick sketch Joe “Wrath” Ire.
